"THOMAS HUDSON--was a farmer, and lived on the western side of the Saugus river. He owned the lands where the Iron Works were situated, part of which he sold for that purpose. He had a son Jonathon, whose descendents remain" Page 125 History of Lynn, Essex County Massachusetts:Including Lynnfield, Saugus, Swampscot and Nahant. By Alonzo Lewis and James R. Newhall published 1865.
"Joseph Jenks, the founder of the family, deserves to be held in perpetual remembrance in American History, as being the first founder, 'who worked in brass and iron,' on the westen continent. By his hands the first models were made, and the first castings taken of many domestic implements and iron tools. The first article said to have been cast , was a small iron pot, capable of containing about one quart. Thomas Hudson, of the same family with the celebrated Hendric Hudson, and lineal ancestor of my mother, was the first proprietor of the lands on Saugus river, where the Iron Foundry stood. When the forge was established he procureed the first casting, which was this famous old iron pot, which he preserved as a curiosity. It has been handed down in the family ever since, and is not, [1844] in the possession of my mother, who, I suppose, would not exchange it for a silver one" Page 208 of the above cited History of Lynn.
John E. Hudson was general counsel to AT&T when it was formed. He became President of AT&T in 1887 and remained so till his death. In 1892 John E Hudson donated the above iron castings to the City of Lynn. >From Page 66 of the Healy History.

The Rev. J.C. Hudson and James S. are mentioned again on p. 510 under
"The 1856 Centre Chain Shaver Families".
"Seely and Rhoda Mariah Hudson Shaver, together with his brother Dr. Gilbert
Shaver, his father-in-law Rev. J. C. Hudson, brothers-in-law Alphonso Young
and Bethel Lilly with their families came to the Center Chain of Lakes in
southern Minnesota Territory in the summer of 1856. They bought Calvin
Tuttle's holding on a beautiful lake, later known as Shaver Lake, then Silver Lake.
Seeley and Mariah were both born in New York State in 1818 and 1831. They
were married in 1846 and came to Minnesota by way of Wisconsin. It is
possible that the first three sons were born in Wisconsin. Theodore bn:
1850 m: Josephine Work in 1872 in Martin Co.; Jerome O. bn: 1852 later a
Fed. Game Warden in Minneapolis. Never married. Irvin G. bn: 1855. m:
Myrtle H. Thompson in 1886. 2 children bu. Center Chain Cem.; son Wilmer
and da. Nellie lived with Theo's when their mother died. Irvin remarried
Grace DeWar Oct. 5, 1899. Born in Martin County were Ella May, bn: 1858
m: Fennimore F. Young in 1878. Fredric A. bn: 1862 m: Bertha Brown in 1886.
Adolphus A. bn: 1866.
Seeley Shaver and most of his family moved to the state of Washington, at
least three years before the other moved west. He died in Harbor,
Washington Nov. 14, 1892. There are several Shaver families located there.
His wife died March 17, 1926.
Children born to my grandparents Theodore and Josephine, besides the two
sets of twins, Frank and Frances, Dora and Flora and another daughter Maude
Elsie, who are buried in the Center Chain Cem. were Lester b: 1873, John
b. 1875, Grace Maria b. 1879, Hugh M. b. 1888 and Luella b. 1886, all born in
Martin County.
Theodore and family moved to Mankato where the older boys and Grace
attended "Normal" school, to become teachers. Luella started school there and
Hugh
went to kindergarten. They moved to the Willamette Valley in Oregon in 1895.
I, Lois Shaver Swarm, am the 2nd of eight children born to Hugh M. and
Elsie Nora (Page) Shaver. Mother was born in 1891 at Foster, Oregon to Miller
and Janet Milne Morgan Page. Dad was born in Fairmont, Mn. Nov 7, 1888 and
started school in Mankato before the family moved west. My parents were
married in Caldwell, Ida. September 28, 1910. Seven children were all
born in Malheur County, Ore. with the last one born in Caldwell, Ida. Hugh
Shaver died in 1976 and Elsie in 1979 at National City, California and
both are buried at Alpine, California.
What a surprise when Lois M. wrote and asked, if by chance I'd ever heard
of names like, "Net" and "Ad"? Names (?) that appeared often in her
grandmother and mother's notes. My dad told us about his grandmother's sisters. He
remembered "Net" and "Addy" the best. "Net" Annette, Mrs.
Alphonso Young,
"Addy" Adelaide, Mrs. Bethel Lilly (widowed), Mrs. Henry Woodworth,
Mariah, Mrs. Seely Shaver, Fanny, Mrs. Ellis Comstock, and James S. Hudson who
married Mary Elizabeth Comstock were children of my
great-great-grandfather Rev. J.C. Hudson. The latter two, Ellis and Mary E. being brother
and
sister of Samaramus Comstock Taplin, the grandmother of Lois M. Madetzke.
Dad's Great Aunt Becky Shaver Hazelton, who lived on the west side of
Silver Lake moved to Washington with her brother Seeley and died there in 1904,
age 100. She came to Martin County in 1858. Her only son had been killed at
the beginning of the Civil War. Dr. Gilbert Shaver married Lucy Marietta
Hand, a sister of Rev. Asa C. Hand.
Seeley, Gilbert and Rebecca were children of Phillip and Catherine Shaver
who came from Germany.
My husband Clarence and I have four sons and two daughters: Robert A.,
Orval J., Mary Ann Rais, Eugenia Lois Sutter, Charles H., and Arthur P. We have
twelve living grandchildren. I am a great-granddaughter of Seely and
Mariah Hudson Shaver, Martin County Pioneers."
